“Today I have signed a presidential order to order the Ministry of Justice and other relevant bodies to review and downgrade documents related to the FBI’s investigation,” the president said on Friday.
The documents will be published over the next six months.
The downgrade comes under pressure from relatives of some of the 2,977 people killed in al-Qaida’s terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.
Relatives have long claimed that classified documents may contain evidence that the Saudi authorities, a close ally of the United States, had links to the hijackers who flew into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
