President Joe Biden was clearly having a good time last night. He made fun of himself because of his advanced age and low ratings. He also mocked Donald Trump’s distaste for the media.
Praise for war reporters
“I’m very excited to be here tonight with the only group of Americans with a lower approval rating than me,” Biden said.
Soon, his comments took on a more serious tone, praising reporters for their courage in covering the war in Ukraine.

American presidents have attended the Correspondents’ Dinner, held in a hotel ballroom, since 1924. It has been canceled for the past two years due to corona restrictions. Biden’s predecessor Trump ignored dinner with the press in previous years because he saw the media as the “enemy of the people.”
Biden made a plea for national unity. “There’s a poison flowing through our democracy with massive misinformation on the rise,” Biden said. “You, the free press, are more important than you ever were in the last century. I really mean it.”

After his speech, it was comedian Trevor Noah’s turn to make fun of Biden. The president could not resist making a mockery of Russian President Vladimir Putin just before that performance. “Trevor, the good news is that you can now tackle the President of the United States. And unlike in Moscow, you are not going to prison.”
