The event, which will take place from 9-10 December, will be joined by leaders from governments, civil society and the private sector. The talks will focus on the challenges and opportunities faced by democracies.
“The summit will provide leaders with a platform to announce both individual and collective commitments, reforms and initiatives to protect democracy and human rights at home and abroad,” the US State Department said.
Participants in the virtual meeting will be able to voice domestic and international initiatives on three key topics:
- protection from authoritarianism;
- anti-corruption and fight against it;
- promoting respect for human rights.
The summit will be attended, in particular, by the member states of the European Union, India, the Republic of South Africa, the Philippines, Georgia, Lithuania, Latvia, etc.
