US President Biden is set to renovate two natural areas that had been reduced by his predecessor Trump. It concerns areas in the state of Utah that together gain 8,000 square kilometers. A fishing ban will again apply in a marine reserve in the Atlantic Ocean.
Trump had Bears Ears en Grand Staircase-Escalante in Utah reduced at the request of the state’s Republican leaders. They wanted to look for oil, gas and other minerals in the areas. Trump believed that his Democratic predecessors Obama and Clinton had abused their power by foreclosure.
Utah Governor Cox expresses disappointment at Biden’s decision. “This shows very clearly that the government does not want to cooperate with or listen to the people who are most affected by it,” said the Republican. The state is looking at ways to challenge Biden’s plans.
