All government candidates are veterans of the Obama-Biden administration and highly experienced in their fields.
“We do not have time to lose when it comes to national security and foreign policy,” Biden said in a statement.
“These people are equally experienced and tested in crises, as well as innovative and gifted,” said Biden.
The US media explained that Blinken’s appointment as Secretary of State could signal a readiness to return to multilateralism, from which the current White House owner Donald Trump will turn away in his foreign policy.
Blinken, 58, a longtime contributor to Biden, has already served as Deputy Secretary of State in the Barack Obama administration.
If the Senate approves his candidacy, Blinken will replace Mike Pompeo, whose priorities have been a more determined confrontation with China and the containment of Iran.
