US President Joe Biden described the attack on the husband of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi as “despicable”.
“This is despicable, it has no place in America, there is a lot of political violence and hatred,” Biden said, during statements that came on the sidelines of a fundraising dinner in Philadelphia.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s 82-year-old husband was hospitalized after being seriously injured in a raid on his California home early Friday morning.
San Francisco Police Department spokesman Adam Lopsinger said officers arrived at Pelosi’s home at around 2:27 am after assaulting her husband and arresting a suspect.
Paul Pelosi suffered severe injuries in the attack after the attacker hit him with a hammer, US media reported, citing sources familiar with the investigation. According to sources, “Pelosi was beaten on the head and body – and suffers from severe bruises, swelling and other injuries.”
