US President Joe Biden said he does not approve of the “admiration” with which his predecessor Donald Trump speaks of Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
“Look at all the authoritarian leaders and dictators that Trump admires. Remember how he talks about the exchange of “love letters” between him and the North Korean dictator. These people from the audience who served in the American army, would you believe that the President of the United States could say such a thing? His admiration for Putin. I can go on,” Biden said in Pennsylvania.
Trump, for his part, debated Biden in absentia a few hours later in Iowa, saying he simply lacked the charisma to work with world leaders.
“You need to be a personality to charm foreign leaders. Do you think with (the head of the People’s Republic of China) Xi Jinping easily? Or with Putin? Trump told supporters.
Earlier, the former president quoted Putin at a rally of supporters in New Hampshire to prove that democracy in the United States is in danger. Biden, commenting on this, said that Moscow and Mar-a-Lago (Trump’s estate) have a lot in common.
