The president of USA, Joe Bidencondemned this Tuesday the “stupid” and “shameful” comment about the I’LL TAKE what the former president did last Saturday Donald Trump (2017-2021), favorite to be the Republican candidate for the November elections.
«No other president in history has given in like this to a Russian dictator. Let me say this as clearly as possible: I will never do that. For God’s sake, he’s stupid, embarrassing, dangerous, and un-American.”Biden said in a speech at the White House.
Last Saturday, Trump attacked NATO and said he would allow Russia to do whatever it wanted, including attacking Alliance members that do not spend 2% of their GDP on defense, the goal set by the transatlantic organization and that a Twenty members do not comply.
Biden referred to those Trump comments with indignation: «Can you imagine, a former president of the United States saying that? Everyone heard it. And the worst thing is that he means it ».
«Donald Trump sees NATO as a burden. When he looks at NATO, he doesn’t see the alliance that protects America and the world. He sees some kind of scam. He does not understand that NATO is based on fundamental principles of freedom, security and national sovereignty. For Tump, principles don’t matter. Everything is transactional »criticized the president.
Biden, who during his career, first in the Senate and then as vice president of Barack Obama (2009-2017), has distinguished himself for his support of NATO, promised that while he is in the White House, the United States will defend “every corner” of the Alliance’s territory.
While governing the United States, Trump frequently criticized NATO and members such as Germanyaccusing them of not paying enough for their own defense and of depending on the US to protect them.
Furthermore, he openly questioned the principle of collective defense, established in Article 5 of the Alliance’s founding treaty, which establishes that an attack on a member is an attack against the entire organization.
The only country that has activated NATO’s common defense clause was the United States after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. EFE (I)
