Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
President United States Joe Biden condemned the attack on Al Ahli Baptist Hospital in Palestine Gaza Strip on Tuesday (17/10).
“I am angry and deeply saddened by the explosion at the Al Ahli Arab hospital in Gaza, and the resulting loss of life,” Biden said in Israel, as quoted Reuters.
This incident occurred when the Israel vs Hamas war continued to heat up since 7 October. Biden also visited Israel to show support for Israel and help reduce escalation.
Biden said the US directed a national security team to gather information regarding the incident. He also emphasized that Uncle Sam’s country supports protecting the lives of civilians while the war is raging.
Apart from that, the US President expressed his condolences to the victims.
“We mourn the patients, medical staff and other innocent people who died or were injured in this tragedy,” he said.
The hospital in Gaza was destroyed due to a rocket attack. As a result of the attack, 500 people, including children and women, were reported killed.
Hamas accused Israel of being the actor behind this attack. Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh even blamed the US for this incident. He said the US often protects Israel as far as Tel Aviv until Israel dares to attack the Gaza Strip.
However, Israel denied carrying out the attack on Al-Ahli Hospital. The Israeli military actually accused another Palestinian militia, Islamic Jihad, of attacking the hospital.
Islamic Jihad is an ally of Hamas which claims to have helped the group fight against Israel all this time.
