As Secretary of State for Relance and Strategic Investments, Thomas Dermine gave a press conference earlier today about the recovery plan that Belgium has submitted to Europe.
That was still in French this afternoon, but in “The appointment on Friday” the socialist showed that he also speaks quite a bit of Dutch. He learned this when his parents sent him to boarding school at the age of twelve to the Abbey School in Dendermonde.
“It was a really nice part of my childhood,” he looks back on that time with a smile. In his own words, Dermine not only learned Dutch in Flanders, the fathers also taught him discipline.
