Biden calls on world leaders to redouble their efforts to fight global warming – Al-Manar TV website – Lebanon

US President Joe Biden called on world leaders at the international climate conference in Sharm el-Sheikh to “redouble their efforts” to fight global warming.

“We can no longer hide that we ignore the consequences of our actions or that we keep repeating our mistakes,” Biden said in his convention address Friday.

Biden confirmed that the US administration will allocate funds to support clean energy initiatives, which he says will “change the original paradigm” for the US and the rest of the world.

“This meeting should be the moment when we renew our commitment to our future and our shared ability to write a better story for the world,” he added.

During his attendance at the climate summit, Biden discussed new measures to reduce methane emissions that contribute to global warming and rising global temperatures.

Biden referred to US pledges to allocate about $375 billion over 10 years to combat climate change, adding that this is part of broader economic legislation passed this year, which will ensure that US goals in reducing climate change are met. of emissions by 2030.

Biden called on all countries to align their efforts with the goal set out in the Paris climate accord, which aims to limit temperature rise by 1.5 degrees Celsius.

The US president also viewed what he described as “the Russian invasion of Ukraine” as evidence of the need to get rid of fossil fuels, despite his earlier calls for increased oil and gas production.

Biden’s visit to Egypt lasted just 3 hours, as the US president left Sharm el-Sheikh for Cambodia, which hosts the US summit with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
