Hiroshima –
President United States of America (AS) Joe Biden stated that he had received a “firm guarantee” from the President Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky that his country will not use jet-jet tempur F-16 supplied by Western countries to enter the region Russia.
As reported ReutersMonday (22/5/2023), Biden told reporters in Hiroshima, Japan, at the end of a meeting of world leaders that F-16 fighter jets could be used “anywhere Russian troops are inside Ukraine and the region.”
Biden said on Sunday (21/5) local time that it was “highly unlikely” F-16 fighter jets would be used in the attack on Ukraine in the coming weeks.
But, Biden continued, Kiev’s troops needed such weapons to defend themselves against Russian forces that were out of their reach at the moment.
The leaders of the G7 member states confirmed at the end of a meeting in Japan on Sunday (21/5) local time that they would not back down from their position supporting Ukraine, in a warning to President Vladimir Putin who claims to have taken control of the city of Bakhmut. Putin’s claims are denied by Ukrainian authorities.
Biden announced a new $375 million military aid package for Ukraine at the end of the G7 meeting in Hiroshima, which lasted three days.
Addressing G7 leaders, Biden said his country supports a joint training program for Ukrainian pilots in flying F-16 fighter jets, although Kiev has yet to get a specific public commitment for the delivery of supplies of the advanced US-made fighter jets.
