President of the United States (USA) Joe Biden met with the President of China Xi Jinping in Bali ahead G20 summit. The meeting turned out to be marred by an argument between Biden and Xi about Taiwan.
Biden and Xi met in Bali on Monday (11/14/2022). This is Biden’s first face-to-face meeting with Xi since he took office as US president in 2020.
Biden and Xi appeared to shake hands before holding talks. Both are seen smiling.
After meeting with Xi, Biden said he sees no signs China may attack Taiwan. He also believes there won’t be a new cold war going on.
“I truly believe there will not be a new Cold War. I don’t think there will be an immediate attempt by China to attack Taiwan,” Biden said in response to reporters’ questions reported by reporters. BBC.
Biden also said he has made it clear that US policy towards Taiwan hasn’t changed at all. Biden said the US would like to see the issue “resolved peacefully”.
“I think (Xi Jinping) understands exactly what I’m saying,” he said.
Biden said the United States is the best positioned country in the world to deal with economic and political change. Biden said he and Xi Jinping have agreed that their cabinet members will meet to discuss many of the issues discussed today.
US Secretary of State goes to China
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is said to visit China early next year. This visit followed a meeting between US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Bali.
Reported AFP extension, The White House has said that Blinken will travel to China. The visit was to follow up on discussions between the two heads of state. A senior State Department official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the two countries are currently planning visits.
“To schedule a tentatively scheduled visit for early next year,” the unnamed source said.
Blinken’s visit to China will be the first by a US Secretary of State since Mike Pompeo. He served under President Donald Trump and made a brief visit in 2018.
He got hot when it comes to Taiwan
Biden and Xi Jinping engaged in explicit dialogue on Taiwan and DPRK (North Korea) issues when they met in Bali. The three-hour face-to-face meeting was intended to prevent strained US-China relations from escalating into a new Cold War.
