The vote count continues after Tuesday’s US presidential election. So far, none of the candidates – neither the current US President Donald Trump nor the Democratic candidate Joe Baiden – has managed to reach the 270-electoral vote required for election.
IN SHORT:
- The number of votes in the US presidential election is still counting in several states.
- Biden is closer to victory if he wins in several states where the votes have not yet been counted.
- The fiercest fight – in Nevada.
- The tram campaign goes to court.
- Democrats have failed to gain a majority in the Senate.
- World leaders – mostly cautious in comments.
Counting continues in several more states, and the decisive battle has now erupted in Arizona, Nevada, Georgia, Pennsylvania and North Carolina. Forecasts to date show that Joe Biden has won between 253 and 264 electoral votes. This could mean that a victory in Pennsylvania or two other states would give him the votes he needs to win.
The fiercest battle has erupted in Nevada, where the two contenders are divided by just a few thousand votes,
however, Donald Trump’s campaign representatives are ready to file a complaint to the court for violations during the counting of votes. In the past, similar complaints have been filed to suspend the counting of votes in Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania. It is also planned to do so in Wisconsin.
In Pennsylvania, the counting of votes has taken a long time, with Philadelphia, the state’s largest city, still having more than 100,000 votes. It may not be completed today. This is because there has been a very active postal vote, and all these envelopes need to be physically opened, the vote seen and compared with the electoral rolls to make sure that there is no fraud. Thousands of people are doing this, but it is not happening as fast as we would like. Democrat Joe Biden is now ahead of Trump in general, but the difference is not huge. Trumps could also win in Pennsylvania. And that could change the dynamics of victory.
At the same time, Trump has filed a lawsuit against the state of Pennsylvania, saying that the votes that arrived in the mail later are not countable and should be stopped, but it has also caused widespread outrage among various legal organizations, saying that such a claim is a questioning of democracy. In several states, Trump’s supporters have also tried to break into polling stations, demanding that they want to see the census run to see that there is no fraud.
As Ronn McDaniel, chairman of the Republican National Committee, pointed out in an interview with Fox news, Republicans are denied confidence in the fairness of the election process:
“We need both sides to have confidence in the elections.
Biden and Trump in the fight for the presidency – some states are decisiveUģis Lībietis00:00 / 03:14

Throwing out our Republican observers from the polls, forcing them to sit outside, covering their windows with cardboard so that they cannot observe the election process. It is not right! We do not hear Democrats say that is not right. We do not hear Joe Biden or Kamal Harris say – let the observers in, let the process go the way it should. We see such things throughout the country, where Republicans are not guaranteed access and the deserved confidence in the fairness of the electoral process is guaranteed. “
There are quite contradictory statements from the Republican camp – on the one hand, all votes are demanded to be counted, on the other hand – the president demands that the counting of votes be stopped shortly after four in the morning.
State election commissions will present the latest census results in the coming hours, but at the same time it is emphasized that there are still about half a million votes to be counted in Arizona, for example, which will certainly take time. So far, the votes cast by mail and previous voters have been in favor of Joe Biden, but it is still difficult to say whether the Democratic candidate will succeed in breaking down Trump’s significant dominance, for example in Pennsylvania or North Carolina.
Meanwhile, judging by the parallel vote in the battle for the seats in the House of Representatives, most experts acknowledge that Democrats have performed much worse than expected.
Current data suggest that Democrats will continue to control the House of Representatives, but Republicans have managed to get at least six congressional votes.
In the Senate, on the other hand, the expected change of power by some is unlikely to happen, and Republicans may be able to maintain control of the upper house of Congress.
This result has already been marked by an increase in stock exchange indices. This is explained by the fact that Biden’s possible election will provide a moderate economic stimulus package, but the Republican Senate is unlikely to allow the richest Americans to raise taxes.
World leaders comment on the US presidential election – mostly cautiousRihards Plūme00:00 / 00:00

Politicians around the world have reacted differently to the US elections and the struggle of both rivals. Russia has so far refused to comment widely, adding Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov that uncertainty over the election results in the world’s largest economy could potentially have a negative impact on the world.
The high leader of Iran, Ayatollah Hamene, has called what is happening on the other side of the ocean a grand show. For his part, Brazilian President Jairie Bolsonar emphasized his good relations with Donald Trump, the owner of the White House, and expressed hope that he would win the election.
Britain has stated that close cooperation with the United States is in safe hands, regardless of who wins. While Prime Minister Boris Johnson declined to comment, Foreign Minister Dominik Rab said he was not worried about relations between the two countries.
Meanwhile, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Ledria emphasized that Europe must build a “new transatlantic relationship, a new partnership”, regardless of who wins. But many were confused by what the Slovenian Prime Minister said. Namely, he congratulated Trump with the victory in the elections yesterday.
CONTEXT:
In the United States of America (USA) on November 3 presidential elections took place. Their winner is still unknown. It may take several days or even weeks to find out which of the two main candidates – the current President, Republican Donald Trump, or Democrat Joe Biden, will host the White House for the next four years.
This year, the election results have to wait longer than usual, because during the pandemic, many chose to vote before the official election day and by post. It takes longer to verify the votes cast.
