The two are expected to discuss various security and strategic issues ahead of a scheduled series of talks on Ukraine.
“President Biden will speak to President Putin by telephone at the request of the Russian side,” a senior US administration official told reporters on Wednesday (12/29/2021).

The US official added, “The two presidents will discuss the upcoming dialogue with Russia on various security and strategic issues. That includes bilateral talks through the Strategic Stability Dialogue, as well as the NATO-Russia Council, and the OSCE Permanent Council meeting, all of which will take place on January 10.”

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed to Sputnik that Biden-Putin talks would take place on Thursday evening (30/12/2021) Moscow time.

Later, the White House confirmed the expected timing of the call.
