Media reported on Tuesday that the conciliatory approach taken by the Biden administration towards the regime in Iran has significantly strengthened its position in the Middle East and encouraged its pursuit of nuclear weapons capabilities.
According to the National Interest website, if the United States government continues to ignore Iranian nuclear developments, Tehran may decide to build an atomic bomb.
He added that the possibility of such a scenario is reasonable given the significant growth in the regime’s nuclear capabilities, the sharp decline in the program’s transparency, and the government’s increased security incentives to make a nuclear bomb amid changing global priorities.
Historical efforts to hide nuclear activities under a civilian guise, along with contributions from various international sources, facilitated Iran’s progress in the field of nuclear technology, according to the American website.
Despite sanctions and international scrutiny, Iran has made remarkable progress, including enriching uranium to near weapons-grade levels.
The report stated that the current global focus on other conflicts may provide Iran with an opportunity to enhance its nuclear ambitions. Iranian officials have publicly discussed the country’s ability to develop nuclear weapons if chosen, marking a shift in rhetoric toward a more assertive stance on nuclear capabilities.
The possibility that Iran will develop nuclear weapons raises significant concerns about global security and regional proliferation, underscoring the need for a strategic approach to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons status, according to the National Interest.
Earlier, the former US envoy to Iran, Brian Hook, said that the administration of US President Joe Biden adopted a “failed” foreign policy that contributed to strengthening Tehran and its arms.
In his assessment of President Biden’s policy, Hook told Sky News Arabia:
- Biden’s foreign policy is very “satisfactory” for Iran.
- Biden gave Iran more power while former President Donald Trump worked to weaken Tehran economically and politically.
- Biden’s lifting of sanctions that were imposed on Iran gave it strength.
- Unfortunately, in dealing with Iran, Biden believes in the principle of “de-escalation,” but Tehran “does not understand this language.”
