US Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg told airlines on Tuesday that the Biden administration has no plans to push back a July 1 deadline for airlines to adjust plane altimeters to address potential interference, a confirmed the ministry.
The International Air Transport Association, which represents more than 100 airlines serving the United States, said on Tuesday that “supply chain issues make it unlikely that all planes can be upgraded before the July 1 deadline, which is likely to cause operational disruptions during the peak summer travel season in the north of the country.”
In a phone call, Mr Buttigieg told the airlines that the department did not plan to extend the deadline and urged them to actively pursue the adaptation of their planes.
