DOKKUM – In the city of Dokkum, a 36-year-old bicycle thief with no fixed abode was hunted on Monday evening. The man fled on foot when the owner chased him.
The thief had stolen the bicycle on the Westersingel in Dokkum. The owner immediately gave chase. The bicycle thief decided to leave the bicycle behind and flee on foot.
Another witness who had observed the scene kept the suspect in sight and called 112. Not much later, the suspect was arrested on the Stasjonswei.
The man resisted arrest for a while and was taken in handcuffs by the police to the cell complex in Leeuwarden.
In addition to the stolen bicycle, the suspect also left behind the bicycle on which he had cycled to the Westersingel. This bicycle, a gray Cortina, is probably also theft, given the cut lock. This bicycle is stored at the police station pending a report.
