Bicycle inspections in the city center met with a positive response / 143 cyclists stopped / few complaints

Darmstadt (ots) – On Wednesday (May 27th), between 8:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., officers from the 1st police station have focus checks in Wilhelminenstrasse / corner Elisabethenstrasse, in Rheinstrasse, at Saalbaustrasse, in Frankfurter Strasse / corner Martin- Luther-King-Ring and in Bismarckstrasse. Because the number of accidents in connection with cycling in the Darmstadt district is still increasing, the controls revolved around the topic of safety, with a special focus on pedelecs tuned in violation of the law. In total, the law enforcement officers stopped 143 cyclists. The numerous discussions that were held showed that the measures taken by the control forces were approved by the majority and met with a largely positive response. As a result, the officials punished eight violations, including four red light trips. Two cargo bike and pedelec drivers are awaiting notification of a violation of the compulsory insurance law. Both had rebuilt their stands for more speed. For a 20-year-old from Darmstadt, the ride on his e-skateboard ended in Elisabethenstrasse. Because there was no insurance cover for his vehicle, the mobile pedestal was secured and he had to continue on foot. The police officers also file a complaint. In addition, the drivers did not go unnoticed. Two delivery vans parked on the sidewalk and bicycle path in Rheinstrasse were sanctioned accordingly. It was also encouraging that the number of violations, in relation to the driving ban for cyclists in Wilhelminenstrasse, has decreased significantly.
