Swedish biathlete Elvira Öberg triumphed in a dramatic mass start on Sunday at the World Cup in Annecy, France. On the 12.5 km track with four shooting items, she won with a lead of more than 10 seconds over the home team Julia Simonová, the third was finished by Russia’s Kristina Rezcovová. Slovak national team member Ivona Fialková finished 21st with four mistakes on the shooting range.

The first three competitors made two mistakes at the shooting range, the best biathlete with clean shooting was the Czech Jessica Jislová in fifth place. Sunday’s “mass” had an interesting course, before the last shoot, Italian Dorothea Wierer built up the lead, but she made one mistake and the race became more dramatic.
Other leading competitors also appeared on one penalty round, which was used by Jislová. The Czech racer hit all the targets on Sunday and got into the leading group, where E. Öbergová, Simonová, Wiererová and Rezcovová also moved.
The winner was decided in the final round and E. Öbergová had the best legs. She mastered standing shooting, bleached all ten targets and finally achieved her second victory in a row.
In the absence of several biathletes such as Eckhoff, Persson, Bescond, Herrmann or Preuss, she finally got into Sunday’s race. Ivona Fialková.
After the first clean shot in bed, Slovenka made three mistakes in the second item, after another clean stand in the final shot she made one mistake. In the end, she lost more than two minutes to the winner.
For I. Fialková it was only the third mass start in her career. At its premiere in Kontiolahti four years ago, it exploded and came last. Two years ago, she did not have the strength left at her World Championships in Anterselva and she finished 25th.
