Slovak biathlete Ivona Fialková recorded the second best result of her career, when she took seventh place in the final race of the season in the 10th round of the World Cup in Östersund, Sweden. Norwegian Marte Olsbu Röiseland won.
Tirill Eckhoff from Norway, the holder of the big and small globes, finished second with a deficit of 29.3 seconds, and Hana Solová from Belarus finished third with a gap of 44 seconds. Ivona Fialková came to the finish line with a gap of 2: 08.9 min, her sister Paulína finished in 33rd place with a deficit of 3: 36.4 min.
Ivona Fialková started from the 33rd place with a gap of 1: 04.3 min. She never managed to clear all the targets on four shooting items, but even in difficult conditions in strong winds, her opponents did not succeed either. Ivona passed a total of five times, running one, one, two and one free lap respectively. She achieved a better result in her career only a year ago at the World Championships in Anterselve, at that time she was also sixth in the chase.
Paulína Fialková started on the track from the tenth position with a deficit of 26 seconds and the awareness of the improving running form. She missed once on the first and second items. However, she did not cope with the difficult conditions on the first shot while standing and missed up to four times. In the end, she added three more circuits, a total of nine.
Thanks to the strong wind, the order in the race was constantly changing. After the first item and one mistake, the sprint winner Ekhofff dismissed the first place of the compatriot Ingrid Landmark’s Tandrevold. She made a mistake on the second shot three times and another Norwegian Olsbu Röiselandová worked her way into the lead.
She kept the lead, although she missed twice in the third and final shootings. She recorded her ninth victory in her career and her third in the season. Eckhoff ended her winning streak at number seven.
Ivona Fialková also won the right to start seventh place in the last races of the season, which will be Sunday’s mass races. This will be the seasonal premiere of a Slovak woman in a discipline in which only thirty biathletes compete.
