Latvian biathlon national team leader Andrejs Rastorgujevs won the 42nd place in the first race of the second stage of the World Cup season in the 10-kilometer sprint in Kontiolahti, Finland on Thursday. For the third time in the season, Rastorguyev did not score two goals in three races and did not supplement the set of test points, but qualified for participation in the driving distance.
The winner was Norwegian Tarje Bei, who shot flawlessly and reached the finish line after 24 minutes and 3.7 seconds. Just like the winner, German biathlete Arnd Peifer, who shot without mistakes, was 13.9 seconds behind and was second, but the bottom of the podium was earned by Johannes Tinyes Be, who completed one penalty lap and lost 29.4 seconds to his brother.
Rastorgujevu from the winner parted a minute and 48.7 seconds.
Two more Latvian biathletes Roberts Slotiņš and 19-year-old Kirils Matjuhins won the 79th and 98th places in the 105-participant competition, respectively. The broom had two shooting errors, while Matthewin measured three penalty laps.
The owners of the 40 best results earned the test points, while the first sixty qualified for the start in driving.
Rastorgujev made one mistake while lying in the first shot and was not fast enough to ski in the TOP 50 to reach the relevant distance. Andrejs did not hit the last target in the second line of fire, but rose a little higher in the results table.
Later on Thursday, women will compete in the 7.5-kilometer sprint – Latvian biathlete Annija Keita Sabule will also start. Competition live at 17.20 will be able to see LTV7 and replay.lv.
In the continuation of the stage, on Saturday the race will be in the driving distance for men and in the relay for women, while on Sunday the women will compete in driving, while the men will start in the relay.
