Rastorgujevs, who started with number 15, made the only mistake in the last firing line and was the leader at the finish, but at the end he was overtaken by three more biathletes. About a third of the 104 participants are still in the distance, but none of these athletes can overtake Rastorgujev.
The victory was won by Roman Rēss, who also made a mistake in the last shooting, the German finishing in 51 minutes and 27.2 seconds. Second with a deficit of 12.1 seconds was his compatriot Justus Strelov, who also did not close a single goal, but the third place was taken by the Norwegian Johannes Bä, who accumulated two penalty minutes and lost 25 seconds.
Rastorgujev was 4.1 seconds behind the top four, but the victory was 29.1 seconds away. The Swiss Sebastian Stalders lost two tenths of a second to the Aluk native, while the Norwegian Endre Stremsheims was 10.2 seconds behind. Rastorgujev also won the fourth place in the 20 kilometer classic in the 2012/2013 season in Sochi, but he won the top four in the World Cup stages or world championships for the ninth time in his career – five times in the sprint (one second, four fourth places), twice in the classics (two fourth places) and once in the mass start (second place) and pursuit (fourth place).
Aleksandar Patrijukas had five penalty minutes and was in 91st place, more than seven minutes behind. Renārs Birkentāls already made four mistakes in the first shooting and ended the competition with six penalty minutes, the winner lost more than eight minutes, which gave him a shared 97th position out of 104 biathletes who started. In the distance, Rastorgujev had the 19th fastest ski, Birkenthal – 61st, and Patrijuk – 69th result.
The first stage of the season will continue with relays on Wednesday and Thursday, but the next distance for men is expected on Saturday – a 10-kilometer sprint.
