Swedish biathlete Hanna Öberg triumphed on Sunday in the opening speed races of the new season of the World Cup in Östersund, Sweden. She was 11.3 seconds ahead of Frenchwoman Anais Chevalier-Bouchet and 15.4 seconds ahead of Norway’s Marte Olsbu Röiseland
Of the three Slovaks in the 113-member starting field, none of them entered the forty points on Sunday. She finished best Ivona Fialková in 48th place, which was 1: 55.2 min behind the winner. The younger of the Fialka sisters shot with a clean item in bed and placed in the promising 23rd place. In the stand, however, the 27-year-old Breznianka made a mistake twice and overall it cost her a drop to the final 48th position.
She’s an older sister Pauline she “shot” the better result in the initial “bed”, where she did not hit twice. She added another mistake in the “stand” and the total distance of 2: 39.5 min meant the 82nd place in the finish.
Tretia Slovenka Henrieta Horvátová she made two mistakes at the shooting range, but as she is one of the weaker runners, she placed 109th with a shortfall of over four minutes on the winner.
Hana Öbergová did not manage the opening event of the season on Saturday, when she finished in the endurance race in 74th place, mainly thanks to seven penalty minutes. However, she did not make a mistake in the sprint on the shooting range and thus took seventh place in the World Cup, the third in the sprint.
The winner of Saturday’s race, Markéta Davidová from the Czech Republic, took 15th place.
The Swede succeeded in the opening sprint of the season a year ago. At that time, however, the season started in Kontiolahti, Finland, this time she could enjoy success at home. “Before the start of the season, I wasn’t sure about my condition, so it means a lot to me that I ran well. I knew that I knew how to shoot before. Failure in endurance racing didn’t bother me. It just gave me the motivation to perform well today.” Öberg announced for biathlonworld.com.
The yellow jersey for the leader of the SP standings still belongs to David, who scored 86 points, as well as Belarusian Dzinara Alimbekav. However, in case of a point match, the higher position in the race in the season decides in its favor.
After the introductory weekend of the World Championships in biathlon 2021/2022, the Slovak national team won only 2 points in the evaluation of the battle for crystal globes, namely Paulína Fialková for 39th place in Saturday’s 15 km endurance race. She is ranked 55th in the World Cup.
