Emilien Jacquelin, Simon Desthieux, Fabien Claude and Quentin Fillon-Maillet finished eighth in the first stint of the season. The Grenoblois could not start France in the best conditions with three penalty laps.

The days go by and are not alike for Emilien Jacquelin. After achieving a superb pursuit on Saturday, where he started 39th, he finished 8th, the Grenoblois missed out on the men’s relay played this Sunday, December 6 in Kontiolahti (Finland). The French relay finished 10th – with three penalty laps and 11 pickaxes – in a race that was won by brothers Tarjei and Johannes Boe’s Norway, ahead of Sweden and Germany.
Here is the podium: Norway – Sweden – Germany
France, with a last stint from Quentin Fillon Maillet finished 8th, almost two minutes from first place.

The Isérois had started his race well with a 5/5 on the lying shot, but he completely scuttled on the standing shot. After three mistakes, he could not put any of his three pickax balls. As a result, he had to complete three penalty laps and an additional 450 meters. The victory was out of reach, the podium was still accessible.
“I’m not going to try not to forget it, to understand what happened. I was comfortable on the skis in the first two laps. Was I mentally ready for that standing shot? I attacked my shot, it’s surely rushing. I’m sorry for the team, for the staff, for the coaches. It’s frustrating when it’s the first stint that crashes. It hurts. I am very wrong, I am disappointed. “
Claude also goes through
The second torchbearer Simon Desthieux had a solid race (1 pick, 9th skiing time in his group) and passed the baton less than a minute late to Vosgien Fabien Claude, second Saturday during the pursuit.
But like Jacquelin, efficient in the pursuit, Fabien Claude also missed out, in smaller widths, and mortgaged any chance of a podium for the France team. Three picks on the prone shot, two on the standing shot and a gap of 1’46 during the last passage of Quentin Fillon-Maillet, who could not bring the team back.
The French relay will have the opportunity to redeem itself next weekend, in Hochfilzen (Austria). This same race will be on the program Sunday, December 13, at 2 p.m.
