One last big double fault (the fifth) and the Australian Open was over for Bianca Andreescu. There was no miracle for the eighth world. After 15 months without playing due to a knee injury and the pandemic, the Canadian was clearly in need of benchmarks. Between bad choices, gross mistakes and approximate placement, she showed a tennis far removed from that which had allowed her to win the US Open in 2019. Against the Taiwanese Su-Wei Hsieh, Andreescu was only entitled to some flashes to show off. But taken aback by the atypical game of her opponent, she never knew how to measure her power and ended up completely foiling.
