The Bian family’s money laundering case has been litigated for many years. On the 26th of last month, the Supreme Court found that Kaohsiung City Councilor and former President Chen Shui-bian’s son Chen Zhizhong had subjective money laundering intent and sentenced him to 1 year in prison. The Kaohsiung District Prosecutor’s Office said today that a summons has been issued to notify him of entering the prison, and he is scheduled to report at 3:30 pm on May 11.
In addition, former President Chen Shui-bian said yesterday that today he will petition the Presidential Palace, the Executive Yuan and the Legislative Yuan on the unconstitutional issue of deprivation of suffrage. Regarding this, Huang Shengxiong, the deputy warden of Taichung Prison, said in an interview today that Chen Shui-bian did not submit relevant applications in advance.
The Kaohsiung District Prosecutor’s Office issued a message in the morning stating that the case was executed under the command of the Taipei District Prosecutor’s Office. Since the defendants’ residences were all within the jurisdiction of the Kaohsiung District Prosecutor’s Office, the Taipei District Prosecutor’s Office entrusted them to execute the case. After receiving the entrustment letter, the case will be handled separately, and the prosecutor in charge will go to the case and go to prison for execution according to law. At present, a subpoena has been issued and the report is scheduled to be at 3:30 pm on May 11.
For years of litigation involving confidential state affairs and other cases, the High Court sentenced Wu Shuzhen, the wife of former President Chen Shui-bian, to 2 years in prison for money laundering in the second instance.
However, Chen Zhizhong and his wife Huang Ruiliang were involved in using overseas accounts to cover up the criminal proceeds of the Longtan land purchase case and the Nangang Exhibition Hall case. According to the Money Laundering Prevention Act, Chen Zhizhong was sentenced to 1 year in prison and fined NT$1.5 million; Huang Ruiliang was sentenced to October. A fine of 1 million yuan, probation for 4 years, and 1 million yuan should be paid to the public treasury for confirmation.
The second-instance judgment of the Taiwan High Court stated that after Wu Shuzhen received bribes in the Longtan land purchase case and the Nangang Exhibition Hall case, she instructed a friend of the Bian family, Cai Mingzhe, to remit the money to an overseas account and hide it; Then he instructed his son Chen Zhizhong and his daughter-in-law Huang Ruijing to launder money and remit it to overseas accounts.
Chen Zhizhong also issued a statement afterwards, “Life has sunny days and storms, breaking the bones of the hands makes us brave. No matter how hard the road is, no matter how many tribulations, we will go on bravely.” The saddest thing is being entrusted by the folks, but the local construction and the needs of the folks have not been fully met. “Thank you for your concern, and please rest assured that Zhizhong will always stand with the grassroots folks and friends, and work hard for Kaohsiung and Taiwan. never changed”.
