BANGKOK — It is now likely that Mr Srettha Thavisin (left) will be proposed by a new coalition made up of the Bhumjaithai Party and Palang Pracharat Party along with Pheu Thai if Parliament votes in the election of the 30. Thai Prime Minister on Thursday 27. July, reconvenes. On Wednesday, Ms Paetongtarn Shinawatra (right) spoke of the need to break the political deadlock over damage being done to the Thai economy as the party prepares to scrap the Move Forward Party, a move that will cost its political capital to the public.
The path taken by Pheu Thai will see it lose significant political capital as it contradicts clear pledges during the general election that it will not do business with parties linked to the military coup 2014 and the existing government under General Prayut Chan ocha. She also returns her commitment to maintaining the “democratic will”, as expressed in the general elections on 14. May expressed calls for a government of democratic reform led by the Move Forward Party.
The Move Forward Party is on the brink of being pushed aside by its coalition partner, the Pheu Thai, as the country grapples with a political crisis erupted by opposition to the Move Forward Party from the full Senate and heightened tensions over its controversial Article Amendment policy 112 of the Criminal Code on lèse-majesté. A new Pheu Thai-led government with Srettha Thavisin as Prime Minister is predicted to take office next Thursday, December 20th 27. July, although this will come at a high political cost as Pheu Thai will abandon key pre-election commitments and the democratic principle that will prevail in the weeks following the general election on Sept 14. discussed in detail in May.
The Pheu Thai party is now openly proposing on Thursday morning, after Wednesday’s traumatic events that saw the most promising prime ministerial candidate, Mr Pita Limjaroenrat, suspended from parliament, that a new coalition partnership without the Move Forward Party is formed in the coming week.
