Kochi: The case of changing the name of Mammootty’s character in ‘Bhramayugam’ to ‘Kodumon Potti’ has been settled. The Censor Board informed the court that it accepted the producers’ request to change the name of the character and gave the instructions for this. Punchaman Illakkar of Kottayam district had approached the High Court demanding the withdrawal of the censor certificate of ‘Bhramayuga’. The petition stated that ‘Kunchaman Potty’ or ‘Punchaman Potty’, played by Mammootty in the film, is their family name and title and the fact that the character in the film is shown doing evil spells etc. is affecting the reputation of their family.
The producers informed the bench of Justice Devan Ramachandran that they are ready to change the character’s name to ‘Koduman Potti’ and have submitted an application to the Censor Board when the case was considered. Then the Censor Board informed the court that they had given permission. Bhramayugam directed by Rahul Sadashivan will release on February 15. According to the petition, Sankunni’s legend in the palace mentions the Punchaman Illas and that they are traditionally blacksmiths. The petitioners pointed out that according to the information that has come out of the film ‘Bhramayugam’, the character ‘Kunchaman Potti’ is a person who does bad magic and so on and this will bring a bad name to the family in front of the society.
