BHIMA Videos: 2024, the great crash test of the Republic – 2024-03-17 11:27:41

2024 is the year in which the most people in history will vote.

In total, approximately half of the world’s population, i.e. at least three billion voters, are expected to go to the polls by the end of the year to elect governments that in some countries, such as Britain, will initiate major changes and in others, such as Russia, they will simply reinforce the existing status quo.

With many electoral contests neither free nor fair, what sounds like a triumphant year for democracy is likely to turn into a year of testing its mettle.

Be that as it may, many of the results of this year’s elections will shape new balances but also have implications for human rights, economies, international relations and the prospects for peace in an unstable world.

THE Tania Bozaninoueditor-in-chief of international news of “Vima” and George TzogopoulosSenior Fellow of ELIAMEP, explain to “Vima” what is at stake in five of the biggest electoral contests of the year and how they could change the world as we know it.
