PTo hope to achieve the feat of interfering in the top 6, the BHB had to win and count on a misstep from Caen to Cherbourg. The Béarn team did the job and could be proud of having succeeded for the third time this season in defeating a member of the top 5. However, the planets were only half aligned, since Caen held their rank with difficulty against Cherbourg (29-31), depriving the gong of a qualification for the dams.
Gala dinner for Vergely
The Billérois, who therefore played their last match of the season this Friday evening in Seine-et-Marne, could clearly have the feeling of accomplishment. The non-qualification for the play-offs was ultimately not a disappointment for a troop proud of the progress made: “We were probably starting from too far, but what a joy to finish on such matches”, indicated the newly retired Jérémy Vergely. Once again against the “big guys” in the championship, Billère played liberated and for a long time believed he could overthrow a Pontello team, which was not very successful for him.
The perfect scenario was written from the start when the attack was going at full speed to dampen the local enthusiasm (6-6, 9th). With the arabesques of Louis Tournellec (author of a memorable kung-fu) and the high quality of Jérémy Vergely (who after 20 years of professionalism left the courts definitively on a 6/7 in shooting), the BHB had reserves (6-9, 12th; 11-12, 21st).
Taking advantage of the procrastination of the opponents, who broke their teeth at the finish, Billère continued on his merry way (13-16, 30th; 17-20, 37th). Shooting at the same organizations, the BHB began to stick out their tongues, a boon which the PCHB seized on to grab ground (21-22, 45th). Carried by a foolproof mind and an iron defense, nothing could definitely happen to the Béarnais, whose acceleration at the heart of the second period proved decisive (22-26, 50th; 24-30, 56th).
The Vikings’ victory deprived Billère of the play-offs but not of great pride in having concluded the exercise in seventh place with 15 victories on the clock.
Reaction
Joris Labro, goalkeeper of Billère: “It’s magical to end the season with such a performance. For two months, we have been playing with our guts and it shows in the results. We showed that we could compete with any team. We can be proud of ourselves. »
