The next stage goal of the BBL endurance run of the BG Göttingen with seven games in 28 days is the Gießen-Ost sports hall on Saturday at 6 p.m. After playmaker Stephen Brown’s positive corona test, no other violet players tested positive before the game at Jobstairs Giessen 46ers, second to bottom of the basketball Bundesliga.

BG head coach Roel Moors does not expect Brown to be there in Gießen. Brown tested positive for the coronavirus on Tuesday, then isolated himself, but had a very low viral load. A test result on Wednesday was negative. Whether he can play is “very unsure. I don’t expect it, but nothing is impossible, ”comments Moors. “We don’t know how the health department decides.” On Saturday, the still symptom-free point guard will be tested again.
With Brown, the BG would definitely have had better chances of winning in Bayreuth, emphasizes the BG coach, who also criticizes too little energy and speed as well as bad decisions and the associated ball losses in the final phase. Nevertheless, his team had “control” with a 66:62 lead, but only to give it up again with a 0: 9 run. “Something like that can always happen,” said Moors – even with a Stephen Brown in the matchday squad.

The issue of additional obligations is becoming more urgent at BG
The fact is, however, that Kamar Baldwin not only had to score in Bayreuth, he also had to direct. “He had to score and create. Maybe it was a little too much, ”says Moors. Among other things, because there are still no further signings in sight, the Belgian admits at the same time that he has no better plan up his sleeve with regard to the game in Gießen, which also applies to the center position.

“Certainly we have too few players, after all we played against Bayreuth with only three foreigners,” says the coach. And yes: “The issue of additional obligations is also my responsibility. But to say that we lacked the size on the floor against Braunschweig and that is why we lost is too easy for me. We have won five times with the same team. ”
There have already been candidates, but the BG head coach reveals that it was either not fit in terms of sport or finances. “The budget is what it is, and other teams with more money are looking for big players too. It is correct that we want to re-oblige as soon as possible, but on the other hand we also do not want what is left over. “All in all, the situation is not only bad for BG, but also for his mental health,” because I think all the time think about it and never get peace of mind ”. In line with this, the BG announced on Friday that the uncertain financial situation caused by the pandemic was not making the search any easier.

Another concern that Moors is concerned with is the question of how the season will continue in view of the corona development. “Alba, Würzburg – it won’t get any better in the next two to three weeks,” he says. The most important thing is the health of the players, on the other hand, the question arises of how the season will continue. Only one thing seems to be certain: “There will be no more games.” In view of the reduced squad and the lack of Brown, the scheduling of the catch-up game against Chemnitz is all the more unfavorable. “Now Giessen, on Wednesday against Chemnitz – that is very bad. Hopefully the situation will develop in our direction, ”says the coach.

Pouring comes into question for the “worst, but also the best”
Under normal circumstances, the BG would have gone to Giessen as the favorite. Moors doesn’t want to know anything about that: “There are no favorites or underdogs, anyone can beat anyone in the BBL. We have seen that often enough. ”In Giessen it is always difficult, the team is able to play“ the worst, but also the best ”. “They are very strong on the offensive, but not constant.”

In the Hessen derby against Frankfurt, the 46ers lost 79:90 and thus suffered their seventh defeat in a row. The best from Giessen last Sunday was Nuni Omot (19 points, seven rebounds). The 2.06 meter tall US forward is also the best point collector of his team with an average of 13.8 points. While the Göttingen are the best three-point shooters, the Hessians are the worst in the league.

The most important thing for the BG is that they find their identity again, says Moors. “There was a lack of speed and energy, but the team fought well,” says the coach. There were no other corona cases until Friday afternoon, and the little violet squad was spared injuries, although there was no training on Thursday. “The last thing I want is that, like in Bayreuth, we have to do without players,” says Moors. “So I hope everyone stays healthy.”
