Happy early Thursday evening at BG Göttingen! “The license is there,” said BG Managing Director Frank Meienrtshagen.
Cologne/Göttingen – Good thing at first – the violets are going into their 15th Bundesliga season in 2023/24. However, there is one restriction: The license was granted with a “condition subsequent”, as could be read on the BBL website later on Thursday evening.
Brose Bamberg, the Rostock Seawolves, the Syntainics MBC Weißenfels and the Würzburg Baskets also have to fulfill them. Ulm, Braunschweig and relegated Bayreuth received the license with one condition.
Meinertshagen: Thanks to partners and fans for their support
“We are very happy that we are financially healthy after this organizationally very challenging season,” says Meinertshagen. “We owe this above all to the support of our partners and fans as well as the good cooperation with the city of Göttingen.”
Condition for BG: prove equity by the end of June
The granting of the license is linked to a condition subsequent, in which the violets must prove by the end of June that they will meet the requirements for the positive equity of 250,000 euros for the 2024/25 season. The equity had been used up due to the corona pandemic and the S-Arena closure. “We already had good talks this season to find a solution together. For us, this condition is not a hurdle,” says Meinertshagen.
Basketball Bundesliga: License for all 18 teams and six possible promoters
The news agency “sportinformationsdienst” (sid) had previously sent this message: “All 18 basketball Bundesliga clubs and six potential promoters from the second-class Pro A have received the license for the coming season. The league announced this on Thursday evening after examining the license documents submitted. Only one applicant from the House of Commons was denied permission to play.”
Ten first division teams and one Pro A team were granted the license without reservation. 13 other candidates have to fulfill conditions or conditions subsequent.
Basketball Bundesliga: There are ten flagship clubs
According to the BBL, the ten flagship clubs from the upper house are champions Alba Berlin, cup winners Bayern Munich, EWE Baskets Oldenburg, Frankfurt Skyliners, Hakro Merlins Crailsheim, MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg, MLP Academics Heidelberg, Niners Chemnitz, Telekom Baskets Bonn and Veolia Towers Hamburg. The BBL did not say which second division club was evaluated in the licensing process. (sid/haz-gsd-nh)
