At the end of the 21st matchday in the Northeast Regional Football League, last year’s champions BFC Dynamo surprisingly only played 2:2 (1:1) against FC Eilenburg. The draw in front of 2,994 spectators in the Sportforum Hohenschönhausen is a serious damper in the fight for promotion. The Berliners claim second place in the table, but with a win over the sixteenth-placed team from Saxony, the gap to leaders Greifswald would only have been three points instead of five. However, due to various game cancellations, the BFC played two fewer games than the Greifswald team, so they could move to first place on their own.
Against Eilenburg, the Berliners, where the suspended head coach Dirk Kunert was represented on the sidelines by his colleague Nils Weiler, started with a lot of enthusiasm. The last five wins in a row were noticeable, Dynamo pushed up the pace. But neither Joey Breitfeld (5th minute) nor Patrick Sussek (9th) took advantage of their chances. Instead, the guests from Eilenburg were successful. After a corner that was defended too short, right-back Alexander Vogel took the lead from around 15 meters.
The BFC now acted much less purposefully, but still had chances (Rufat Dadashov, 16th and 22nd) and also equalized in the 30th minute. David Haider gave Eilenburg’s goalkeeper Luca Bendel no chance to defend from close range and with a tunnel. The hosts finally took the lead in the 49th minute. After a throw-in, the ball came via a detour to Alexander Siebeck, who scored from around twelve meters. As a result, Dynamo let the reins slip and gradually gave up control of the game. The receipt: Eilenburg’s equalizer in the 76th minute. After a corner, central defender Kilian Zaruba headed the ball into the Berlin goal. The BFC’s final offensive was too often piecemeal and achieved nothing.
FSV Luckenwalde did better in front of 304 spectators with a 1-0 win over ZFC Meuselwitz. In an overall weak game, Brandenburg were the slightly better team, with a header goal from a corner by Jonas Böhmert just before half-time being enough. Thanks to the home win, Luckenwalde climbed to ninth place in the table and is now six points ahead of the first possible relegation spot.
