On the 18th, BJ Jo Yeri, who is active in the Internet broadcasting platform SOOP (formerly Afreeca TV), posted a video recorded on the CCTV installed in the hallway of the building on her Instagram, saying, “I experienced terrible things inside my house that were difficult to post on Instagram.” revealed.

In the video, the man hiding behind the door grabbed the door as soon as it opened and broke into the house. It is reported that this man is Cho’s ex-boyfriend with whom she dated for a year.

Mr. Cho explained, “The perpetrator waited in front of my house for 13 hours until I opened the door and came out. The moment I opened the door, he jumped out from behind the front door.”

Recently, as stalking crimes targeting Internet broadcasters have continued, it has been pointed out that Internet broadcasters should be careful about personal information being leaked.

One Internet broadcaster said, “There is nothing more dangerous than having your residence information leaked to viewers while talking about your daily life or broadcasting on SNS.”

In May of last year, BJ Reba, a comic book writer and internet broadcaster, revealed that he had been attempted to break in by a stalker while broadcasting. It is said that the woman who attempted to break in at the time found Reba’s home address by looking at information from broadcasts, photos of the house structure, and cartoons.

In addition, Internet broadcaster Lilka confessed through a broadcast in May 2022 that she had been stalked by an unidentified man for about three years. According to Lilka, this man wandered around Lilka’s residence or sent messages on social media, and continued to stalk her by following her even after she moved and finding out her address. In the end, Lilka reported the man to the police, and was sentenced to 8 months in prison, 2 years of probation, and a fine of 100,000 won for violating the stalking punishment law.

In order to prevent damage from stalking by BJs, Soop receives reports of damage related to stalking through the customer center, and takes blocking measures in accordance with the operation policy when stalking behavior is confirmed within the platform service. However, due to the nature of Internet broadcasting, there are limits to preventing information about residence or daily life from being leaked to viewers in real time.

Accordingly, Internet broadcasters should: △ limit as much as possible the residential information revealed on the screen during broadcasts △ block information that could identify personal locations on SNS or video content △ do not receive gifts from fans directly to their home addresses, but instead send them through agents, etc. Advised on reception, etc.
