Beyond Good & Evil revamp coming early next year

Earlier this week, a bunch of Ubisoft+ subscribers suddenly got access to a remastered edition of Beyond Good & Evil. As Ubisoft had not said anything about a new version, everything indicated that it was a mistake on the part of the developer, which should turn out to be true.

On Wednesday, Ubisoft took over X (formerly Twitter) to acknowledge the blunder. At the same time, the company revealed that the revamped version of the game – called Beyond Good & Evil 20th Anniversary Edition – will launch early next year. 2024 also marks Beyond Good & Evil’s 21st anniversary.

While official details won’t come until next year, we already know quite a bit about what the anniversary edition looks like now. Screenshots, video and other details – which Ubisoft has worked hard to remove – quickly found their way onto the internet, reporting among other things about improved graphics.

Beyond Good and Evil was originally released in 2003.

According to Eurogamer, Xbox also had a listing for the game up for a while, with more information on what players can expect.

– Join this epic adventure in up to 4K and 60 frames per second, with improved graphics, controls and sound, as well as brand new auto-save and cross-platform gameplay features.

The Xbox listing also talked about players getting to learn more about Jade, try out a “speedrun” mode and see new insights into the evolution of the classic game.

Ubisoft also reports that the version that some users were able to play this week was only an early edition of the game. It is therefore pointed out that it must not be considered as a pointer to how the final game will be.
