Beyond Good & Evil 2 Creative Director Emile Morel Dies at 40: Ubisoft Mourns the Loss

One of the sad duties of this job, in addition to announcing delays, is sometimes bringing news of deaths of people from the gaming world. One case of this type was not long ago the Czech professional player Karel “Twisten” Ašenbrener and before him Lance Reddick. Unfortunately, another employee is joining them, this time an employee working at Ubisoft. Emile Morel – a high-ranking developer who was a member of this French publisher for years and also the creative director of Beyond Good & Evil 2 – has also been added to the list of missing persons.

Beyond Good & Evil 2 creative director dies at 40Emile Morel worked in Ubisoft almost 14 years and participated in the Rayman seriesThe causes of death have not yet been publicly communicated

Morel’s death was initially reported by his colleagues in the gaming industry, who paid tribute to him on their own accounts on LinkedIn (via IGN); where it was confirmed by i Ubisoft. “Rest in peace my dear Emile Morel,” the producer and former colleague at Ubisoft Montpellier wrote to the late developer Greg Hermittant. “You have been such a great and kind partner during all these years at Ubisoft. I am grateful to have been able to work with you on so many projects.

Another colleague adds: “For over a decade I was his valued colleague at Ubisoft Montpellier, we laughed and cried in good times and bad and together we delivered a lot of great games,” wrote the former narrative director of Beyond Good and Evil 2 M. Gabreille Shrager. “Emile was very proud of Beyond Good and Evil 2, Space Monkeys and his teammates. We will miss him very much, he adds”

Morel has worked at Ubisoft since 2009, when he first joined the company. During this time, he worked on several titles, including games that you are sure to know. Examples include Rayman Legends, where he took on the role of senior game designer, and later Beyond Good & Evil 2 (associate creative director), before taking control and becoming creative director of the entire project.

Before that, he also worked in another team. He worked at Eden Games for almost four years, helping to design games like Alone in the Dark and Test Drive Unlimited 2, before making the switch to join Ubisoft. With this in mind, however, it is good to point out the age of the developer himself. Emil Morvel was only 40 years old at the time of his death, and this is another of the unexpected (though probably not guilty) deaths that the game industry has suffered over the years.
