A message that looks to the presidential elections in November in the United States and is clearly addressed to the African American community whose vote could be decisive in the re-election or not of the current president. The ceremony (virtually broadcast due to the coronavirus pandemic) focused heavily on issues such as systemic racism and rights.
Beyoncè, which will release the visual album “Black Is King” on July 31, has been awarded the “Humanitarian Award” for its many social initiatives, and has dedicated it to the Black Lives Matter movement and its activists throughout the Country.
“Your voices are being heard, you are proving to your ancestors that their battle has not been in vain,” Beyoncé said to the African American public and anti-racist activists. It was introduced by former first lady Michelle Obama, who praised her commitment to the black community: “You see it in everything it does, from music that gives voice to black joy and black pain, to its activism that calls for justice for the lives of black people. ” Obama also praised the promotion of young artists and his “open stance against sexism and racism when he sees them”.
