The 43-year-old superstar has been in the spotlight since she was a child, performing in girl groups before rising to fame as a founding member of Destiny’s Child in the mid-1990s.

However, the singer recently confided that she does not feel comfortable with life in the spotlight, despite her passion for music, and that she likes to take time between releasing her albums and touring.

“I create at my own pace, on topics that I hope will resonate with other people,” she told GQ. “I only work on what liberates me. Fame can feel like a prison sometimes. So when you don’t see me on red carpets, and when I disappear until I have art to share, that’s why.”

The interpreter of Texas Hold’Em then hinted that she was worried about her children, Blue Ivy, 12, and her twins Rumi and Sir, seven, whom she had with husband Jay-Z, 54, another music icon. Blue Ivy still joined her on stage during her world tour Renaissance.

“Blue is an artist,” she justified. “She has excellent taste in music and fashion. She’s a fantastic writer, painter and actress. She’s been creating characters since she was three. She’s a natural, but I didn’t want Blue on stage.”

Like many mothers, Beyoncé then assured that she had simply wanted to please her daughter: “Blue wanted to do it for herself. She took it seriously and earned it. And above all, she had fun! We all saw her grow more and more each night before our eyes.”
