A report issued by the World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) 2018 stated that drinking more than two alcoholic drinks per day increases the risk of developing bowel cancer by 7%.
The study added that consuming 30 grams or more of alcoholic beverages every day may cause death.
The report also outlined links between lifestyle factors and colorectal cancer, a form of bowel cancer.
And 16 out of 19 studies conducted showed an increased risk of developing the disease by 7% for every 10 grams of ethanol, which is one of the components of alcohol, according to the newspaper “The Sun”.
There are around 42,900 new bowel cancer cases in the UK each year, and it is the third most common type of cancer.
That equates to about 120 new diagnoses each day, according to data between 2016 and 2018.
The disease begins in the large intestine and often develops from precancerous growths called polyps.
Research published in the journal Gut also revealed a link between sugar-sweetened beverages and this deadly disease.
The study found that if adults, especially women, drink two or more drinks a day to quench their thirst, double the risk of developing bowel cancer before the age of fifty.
But alcohol and high-sugar drinks were not the only risk factors for colon cancer, but too much red meat.
But eating dairy products, whole grains, and foods high in fiber all reduce the risk of colorectal cancer.
In addition, exercising and taking calcium supplements also helped reduce the risk.
In November 2022, experts revealed that a healthy vegetarian diet reduces the risk of bowel cancer by a fifth, especially for men.
