Often feel bad sleep? It’s good if you check the levels cholesterol.

Symptoms of high cholesterol can actually appear at night. Studies in 2014 prove there is a relationship between sleep patterns and high cholesterol.

Experts find difficulty sleeping or staying asleep may be a symptom to watch out for.

Even though there is no causal effect between sleep patterns and cholesterol levels, Don Grant from The Independent Pharmacy still advises people to do blood checks.

“It’s not unreasonable to say that if people have trouble sleeping or sleep a lot, they might want to consider getting a blood test to see if they have high cholesterol,” Grant said. Mirror.

High cholesterol levels can damage the arteries so that you are at risk peripheral arterial disease (PAD).

PAD is often caused by a buildup of fatty deposits containing cholesterol in the artery walls. This process is called atherosclerosis which reduces blood flow through the arteries.

“[PAD] there may be no symptoms,” said Lee Kirksey, a specialist in vascular surgery at the Cleveland Clinic, as quoted from WebMD.

It’s just that in some cases, PAD can trigger problems such as running your feet during sports, the appearance of sores or ulcers in the leg area, to tissue damage.

PAD itself is considered to be related to sleep disturbances. In other words, the symptoms of high cholesterol, which has reached the PAD stage, can indeed be felt at night.

PAD will interfere with the quality and quantity of sleep in three ways as follows.

1. Nyeri

Severe PAD triggers pain, even when you’re not moving. That is, pain can occur during sleep. You may wake up with pain or tingling in your feet.

2. Sleep apnea

Kirksey said, there is a relationship between sleep apnea and PADs. Sleep apnea known to disturb sleep and wake people up due to obstructed airways.

“People with sleep apnea have periods where they stop breathing or take very few breaths. Everything can disturb their sleep,” he said.

When you stop breathing, oxygen levels drop, causing inflammation that can affect your heart, blood vessels in your brain, and arteries leading to your legs and arms. Then, scar tissue forms in the arteries and results in PAD.

3. Restless legs syndrome

Restless leg syndrome or restless leg syndrome associated with PAD. Approximately 10-20 percent of PAD patients experience this sleep disorder.

Patients usually describe that they cannot keep their feet still at night.

However, Kirksey says that PAD doesn’t always trigger restless legs syndrome. However, the two are related.
