Beware of US-Russia war, Biden sends fighter jets close to Ukraine

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Conditions in Ukraine are getting hotter. After the announcement of the independence of the two regions controlled by pro-Russian rebels by President Vladimir Putin on Monday (21/2/2022) local time, Moscow reportedly sent troops to Eastern Ukraine.

Russian media outlets RTVI posted a video of a military convoy moving through the streets of Donetsk city Monday night. Donetsk is the capital of the Donetsk People’s Republic, one of the two rebel territories that Putin declared independence.

The convoy included howitzer guns. However, according to CNN Internationalit is not clear whether it belongs to Russia or belongs to the rebel militia.

This led the British to say that Russia had already started the invasion. “From that it can be concluded that the invasion of Ukraine has begun,” British Health Minister Sajid Javid was quoted as saying CNBC International.

Russia itself says it sends troops as “security guards”. But Ukraine feels Russia violates the country’s national integrity and sovereignty.

Most recently, the United States (US) reacted. President Joe Biden in his latest press conference Tuesday (22/2/2022) evening local time, confirmed that he would help Ukraine.

The US will supply defense weapons to the country to counter the Russian invasion of Eastern Europe. Biden also confirmed that he would deploy US troops to strengthen NATO allies in the region.

“I have authorized the movement of additional US troops and weapons, already stationed in Europe, to strengthen our Baltic allies Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania,” Biden was quoted as saying. AFP.

“Let me be clear, this is really a defensive move on our part.”

Biden is also reported to be sending 800 infantry troops to the Baltic region. Including eight F-35 fighter jets to several NATO wing countries in Eastern Europe.

quote Reuters, a US official source, also said 32 AH-64 Apache attack helicopters would also be deployed to the Baltic region and to Poland. Poland is a NATO country which borders directly with Ukraine.

“These additional personnel are being repositioned to reassure our NATO allies, deter potential aggression against NATO member states, and train with host nation forces,” the senior US defense official added.

There are two regions of East Ukraine that want to secede and are supported by Russia. Apart from Donetsk, who called themselves The Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), there is also the Lugansk region, which names itself Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR).

This region is directly adjacent to Russia. The fighting with the Ukrainian government lasted eight years and has claimed the lives of tens of thousands of people.
