Beware of this supposed Facebook giveaway for its 20th anniversary: it’s ‘phishing’ · Maldita.es

Have you been sent a supposed draw for the 20th anniversary of Facebook? Be very careful, because it is about phishing, a technique that seeks to get hold of your data and, sometimes, your money. In this case, they also try to download a program to your device, but it is not a real Facebook giveaway, nor has this company been 20 years old.

As indicated in his web page, Facebook was founded in 2004, so 2021 has been 17 years since its launch, not 20. In addition, the company has not echoed this alleged draw through no press release or release.

A key to verify that it is phishing the thing is the URL of the page of the supposed giveaway (biedengdao.club) is not the official one of Facebook (facebook.com).

The first step they ask you to access the supposed prize is to answer some questions related to Facebook. Thear it on a page that copies the design of the platform.

Once you answer those questions, they give you the opportunity to win the prize by clicking on three of the boxes shown. Coincidentally, on the third try they always tell you that you have been the winner of those € 1,000.

But the thing does not stop there since even after announcing that you have won the money they ask you to forward the supposed draw to your contacts until you fill in a bar. It is important that you do not do this as it could also be done with your data.

Also, the last step before they supposedly give you the money is to download a program on your device and keep it open for 30 seconds, something you should not do since they could install some malware.

In short, it is a hoax that Facebook has launched this giveaway for its 20th anniversary: it is a case of phishing with which they seek to get hold of your data and install a program on your device.
