When you don’t want to get scammed, you have to constantly stay on your guard. Indeed, the most cautious know that scams await us by phone, text messages or even email. But these days, dishonest individuals can also count on new technologies. Recently, several companies and administrations have already experienced large-scale cyberattacks. However, recently, Zimperium, a company specializing in mobile security, decided to alert on 2 viruses that install themselves on our phones without making any noise.
With these malwares, scammers have the ability to steal our personal data. But they can also attack sensitive applications. In particular, our banks. Result? Some people have already lost large sums of money, before discovering the scam. Of course, these two viruses hide in other programs. To better lull the distrust of Internet users. Fortunately, there are solutions to avoid falling into this trap. Let’s take stock!
How do these viruses act?
Witnesses began coming forward as early as August 2024. In their accounts, they all indicate that they installed an application called Gigabud. In the hours that followed, they began to notice surprising things on their mobile. Which is easily explained: this app allows hackers to access all the features of the device. As well as all the data stored in the phone. In addition, this virus relies on another program, Spynotewhich allows hackers to administer the device remotely.

From there, these viruses target logins, passwords and banking apps. Or those related to Cryptocurrencies. According to Zimperium, 50 applications were affected by these attacks. And each time, the hackers had no trouble emptying their victims’ accounts.
“The connection between Gigabud and Spynote demonstrates the growing complexity of mobile malware attacks. Our latest research highlights the critical importance of real-time, on-device detection to protect against these rapidly evolving threats,” said Nico Chiaraviglio, Chief Scientist at Zimperium.
Don’t let your guard down!
These two viruses wreaked havoc, thanks to a vast phishing campaign. The criminals did not hesitate to design fake sites, to better deceive the most gullible. They copied public service sites, but also very famous firms. Not hesitating to take their colors, their logos, etc. In total, Zimperium identified 79 fraudulent pages. All redirected Internet users via links, so that they download Gigabud and Spynote.
Also, to avoid installing apps riddled with viruses, you just need to never click on suspicious links. Especially if you receive them by SMS or email. In general, you will also avoid a lot of problems by downloading only applications listed on the stores. Concretely, if you have an iPhone, limit yourself to the programs offered by the App Store. But if you use an Android phone (Xiaomi, Huawei, Samsung), rely only on the Play Store.
