This period is particularly delicate: after a year of closure it seems that the first steps are moving towards the return to normalcy, moreover with the approach of summer. For many it means going back to taking possession of outdoor city spaces, but above all throwing themselves back on sports and fitness, perhaps for the costume fitting.
So far it would seem all right, but beware of the risks of this incredible addiction that can affect anyone: addiction to sports and fitness.
We know in fact how much it is risky having a sedentary life, perhaps in front of the TV or PC, but falling into an addiction to physical movement is certainly no less insidious.
Beware of the risks of this incredible addiction that can affect anyone
Some research carried out by associations and scientific institutes have found that more than half of Italians would be at risk of developing this addiction. We know that physical movement produces endorphins, substances produced by the brain not too different from real pleasure drugs.
No wonder then, if in recent months many Italians have built a small gym or a small corner for exercises at home. Or even that they have increased the times dedicated to running by double or triple.
But be careful: concentrating too much on this activity, although it is good for the body if certain rules are respected, risks throwing much more away. The time and energy dedicated to physical movement are in fact taken away from others, with two great risks for our happiness and our balance.
The risks
The first risk is physical, indeed food specifically. Obsession with the project of having a perfect body or losing pounds (or gaining mass) in an impossible way is very risky. The danger is to vary the diet in an unbalanced way, to ask too much of the body and to subject it to exaggerated stress.
The second threat is a social one. In fact, physical activity is almost always individual, and even if it is possible to do it in company, it puts us in a mental state of concentration that isolates us from the rest. This means that our partner, our family, our friends may feel neglected and worry about us.
So beware: live sport and physical movement, but above all when we make uncommon resolutions. We agree to put ourselves in the hands of one or more experts who know how to advise us, both as regards the number and type of exercises (and also how to do them, as long as the threat of contagion remains), and as regards a balanced diet. Let’s avoid improvising.
