“Beware of Scam Messages requesting payment for alleged customs fee: Federal Network Agency warns against Phishing”

The Federal Network Agency is currently receiving a large number of complaints about SMS or messenger messages with requests to pay (or “pay back”) an alleged customs fee in order to enable parcel delivery.

The messages supposedly come from postal and parcel service providers such as Deutsche Post or DHL. German mobile phone numbers or international numbers are transmitted as sender numbers. On these pages, consumers are asked to enter personal data, such as credit card information in particular.

Should you already z.B. If you have disclosed credit card information, the Federal Network Agency recommends contacting your bank immediately to block the credit card and also reporting this to the local police authority!

The Federal Network Agency has had numerous German mobile phone numbers switched off in recent weeks, so that these numbers can no longer be used to send messages. However, in cases in which foreign numbers are transmitted as sender numbers, the Federal Network Agency is not able to issue a deactivation measure. Foreign phone numbers are not subject to number management by the Federal Network Agency.

It cannot be ruled out that the perpetrators will continue to send similar messages with modified texts in the future. The Federal Network Agency therefore advises consumers to be more careful!
