DURING During the pandemic, there were a lot of promotions or advertisements regarding medicines circulating and claimed to be able to treat Covid-19. Even though so far there hasn’t been one drug proven to be effective in treating Covid-19.
Therefore, the public is asked not to easily believe in promotions or advertisements that include excessive claims, especially in the treatment of Covid-19.
Summarizing from the official BPOM Instagram page, @bpom_ri, so far there have been no approved traditional medicinal products with claims of efficacy to prevent or treat Covid-19. The following are claims of traditional medicines that are allowed by BPOM.
1. Traditional health care claims (Traditional health in use).
2. Traditional claims for treatment (traditional treatment).
3. Claims of treatment are scientifically proven (Scientifically established).
In addition, traditional medicine must also have several other requirements, such as:
1. Objective: Must provide correct information and not deviate from the benefits and safety that has been approved by the POM.
2. Complete: Must include information about product efficacy claims. Matters that must be considered (rules of use, warnings, attention) and markings approved by the POM Agency.
3. Not excessive and not misleading: information must be honest, accurate, not excessive, not taking advantage of public concerns about a health problem, and not creating a misleading image or perception.
Keep in mind, traditional medicine should not include excessive claims as a medicine or aim to prevent a disease such as:
