Beware of Malicious Programs Masquerading as “Windows Update”

Reporter Chen Yishao / comprehensive report

Everyone has access to the Internet, but the Internet is full of pitfalls! Malwarebytes, an information security company, warns that there are malicious programs masquerading as “Windows Update”, making the public mistakenly believe that the computer is updating the system at the same time.

Malwarebytes said that Windows users are very familiar with system updates, and usually when this happens, they just want to install whatever needs to be installed and get on with their day.

However, some unscrupulous people disguise the malicious program as “Windows Update”. Once you click “OK”, you will be fooled, and then the executable installation file of “ChromeUpdate.exe” will be automatically downloaded. This is a spy program that can steal personal data.

But the file name can fool antivirus software.

Experts suggest that if computer users need system updates, please find the required files from Microsoft’s official update directory website and download them from Microsoft’s official website to reduce the risk of virus infection.
