Beware of KTP data theft for online loans, here’s how to protect it

KONTAN.CO.ID – Some time ago there was a buzz on Twitter about the alleged practice of selling Identity Cards (KTP).

The Twitter account @Pinjollaknat on Tuesday, April 20, 2021, uploaded photos of ID cards that allegedly belonged to others that were duplicated without the owner’s knowledge.

The fake ID card will most likely be used to apply for credit cards or online loans.

Misuse of KTP data can have an impact on people who feel that they have never registered a credit card but suddenly there is a credit card bill.

In addition, someone could also not have an online loan but were suddenly terrorized by debt collectors.

Yerry Niko Borang, cybersecurity observer and Engagement and Learning Specialist staff at Engage Media, said that in the current era, it is quite difficult to secure KTP data.

The potential for KTP data leakage can occur anytime and anywhere.

“This is very difficult to maintain, because KTP leaks can occur anywhere. You see, the ID card data and physical ID cards were made in the village, then submitted to us. The span is quite long,” he told Kompas.com, Saturday (24/4).

Not only that, almost all online applications, including finance, education, health, and others, require users to submit proof of themselves.

“Even financial applications such as for trading on exchanges or crypto use this too,” he said.

Even so, there are a number of efforts that people can make to prevent their personal data from being easily shared.

For protection in parts user KTPs, people need to be careful when lending KTPs to be photocopied.

In addition, you should not carelessly share your KTP data when you participate in certain services on the internet.
