‘Most people are well aware that login details are traded on all kinds of online trading places’, says Ruben van Well, team leader of the Rotterdam cybercrime team. But the criminal trading site Genesis Market, now shut down by the FBI, was one of the most dangerous. This site not only sold account information, but also a copy of someone’s online fingerprint, or unique digital fingerprint. This allows hackers to take over someone’s digital life. For example, it was possible to order and pay for things in web shops in the name of victims or, in certain cases, even to plunder entire bank, crypto or investment accounts.’
